WHY HAVE WE CREATED OUR RETURN PACKAGING REWARDS PROGRAM?
MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE
At Saarinen Organics, we believe in walking the talk when it comes to sustainability. After a long journey spanning 15 years, we are thrilled to introduce our innovative reuse packaging system. This system sets us apart from traditional recycling methods and allows us to make an even greater positive impact on the environment.
Here's how it works:
We wholeheartedly embrace the concept of circularity by accepting back our used packaging from customers. Once in our hands, we take extensive measures to ensure the packaging is thoroughly cleaned and sterilized to hospital-grade standards. This meticulous process guarantees the highest level of hygiene and eliminates any concerns about bacteria or contamination.
Once the packaging has been sterilized, we refill it with our exceptional products, ready to be enjoyed again. This cycle of reuse allows us to minimize waste, reduce our carbon footprint, and promote a more sustainable approach to packaging.
To participate in our reuse packaging program
simply send your used packaging back to us at the following address:
Saarinen Organics
P.O. Box 9071
Wyndham, NSW, 2550
Alternatively, you can drop off your packaging at our designated Kits located at various convenient spots, including
Bega Valley Market Place in Bega,
Black Daisy in Pambula,
The Essence in Merimbula, and
Markets on Lamont in Bermagui.
Preparing your packaging
To ensure the smooth process of reusing the packaging, we kindly request that you remove any labels and thoroughly wash out the containers. This not only saves us valuable time and effort but also helps maintain the highest standards of hygiene in our lab and working area.
Please asses your containers well for we cannot reuse dented bottles or cracked glass.
Do return all the plastic, bamboo lids, pumps and casca seals for more points.
People love our reuse packaging system
We are proud to share that even Costa, the renowned advocate for sustainable living, has expressed his admiration for our reuse packaging system. During a spontaneous conversation about the pressing issue of global packaging crises and greenwashing, Costa visited our lab. It was a genuine, unplanned encounter, and we were thrilled to show him around and share our sustainable practices. His support reaffirmed our commitment to making a real difference in the world.
We thank you for returning your packaging
By embracing our reuse packaging system, you become an integral part of our mission to combat waste and promote genuine sustainability. Together, we can create a future where reusing takes precedence over recycling, making a lasting positive impact on the planet.
Join us on this exciting journey as we pave the way for a more sustainable and responsible future. Let's make a difference, one reused package at a time!
GREENWASHING: WORDINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR
As consumers, it's essential to be aware of misleading marketing tactics and greenwashing in the skincare industry. Here are some wordings commonly used that require closer examination:
-
"Plastics made with ex-consumer plastic waste": While it may sound eco-friendly, this statement can be deceptive. In reality, only a small percentage of post-consumer plastic can be effectively recycled, as it often requires the addition of virgin plastic to maintain its strength. Be cautious of companies claiming to use recycled plastic without providing clear information on the percentage or the overall sustainability of their packaging.
-
"Carbon neutral": This term implies that a company offsets its environmental impact by investing in activities like tree planting. However, relying solely on offsets does not address the root causes of carbon emissions or environmental destruction. Beware of this term and look for companies that prioritize reducing their carbon footprint through sustainable practices rather than simply purchasing offsets.
-
"Our packaging is recycled": While recycling is a step in the right direction, it is important to understand the context. If the responsibility is shifted onto consumers to recycle the packaging, it may not guarantee proper recycling or be an effective solution. Many people do not recycle, and some local councils may send recyclables to landfill. Look for companies that take a more proactive approach, such as those participating in recycling programs at supermarkets, where plastics are returned and even incentivized.
By being vigilant and questioning these greenwashing claims, we can make informed choices and support companies that genuinely prioritize sustainability and transparency. At Saarinen Organics, we believe in providing clear and honest information, ensuring that our actions align with our commitment to the environment. Together, we can navigate through the noise and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
